How to use it

  1. Type or paste the players, one per line. Any number from 4 to 40 works: when the group is not a multiple of 4, players take turns sitting out.
  2. Set the courts, the rounds and the points per match, and choose Americano (fixed schedule, rotating partners) or Mexicano (each round paired by the ranking).
  3. Press "Create tournament". Send each round to the group and type the scores as the matches finish. With a fixed total, the second score fills in by itself.
  4. After the last round, download the ranking image or copy the tournament link. Whoever opens the link sees the same rounds, scores and ranking.

Examples

  • 8 players, 2 courts, 7 rounds

The classic Americano: each player partners with each of the other seven exactly once and faces each of them exactly twice.

  • 12 players on 3 courts

The full rotation is 11 rounds. Short on time? Play 7: nobody repeats a partner and the ranking works the same way.

  • 9 players and 2 courts

One player sits out each round. In 9 rounds everybody rests once, partners with everyone once and plays 8 matches.

  • Mexicano for mixed levels

Round 1 is a draw. From round 2 on, 1st and 3rd of the ranking play 2nd and 4th on court 1, 5th and 7th play 6th and 8th on court 2, so the matches get closer every round.

Questions

What is a padel Americano?

A social doubles format where partners change every round and each player keeps an individual score. Every point you win, with any partner, is added to your own total, and the player with the most points at the end wins.

What is the difference between Americano and Mexicano?

In an Americano the whole schedule is fixed at the start and partners rotate so everyone plays with everyone. In a Mexicano only the first round is drawn: after that each round is built from the ranking (1st and 3rd against 2nd and 4th, and so on), so players of a similar level end up on the same court.

How even is the rotation?

With 4, 5, 8, 9, 12, 13, 16, 17, 20, 21 or 24 players and one court for every four, the full rotation makes every two players partners exactly once and opponents exactly twice. With other numbers, fewer courts or fewer rounds, the generator keeps repeated partners as low as it can find and rotates the rests: nobody sits out twice before everyone has sat out once.

How many points per match?

Most groups play to a fixed total of 16, 21, 24 or 32 points: every rally is a point and the match ends when the total is reached, for example 14 to 10 in a match to 24. Choose "free score" to count games or sets instead.

What happens with 5, 6, 7, 9 or 10 players?

Each court takes four players and the others sit out that round. The form shows how many rest per round and after how many rounds everybody has rested the same number of times. A player who rests scores nothing in that round.

How is the ranking decided?

By points won, then by the difference between points won and lost, then by wins. You can rank by wins instead, the usual way when matches are played in games. Players with exactly the same numbers share the position.

What is in the tournament link?

The names, the settings, the draw code and the scores, in the part of the address after the # sign, which browsers do not send to the server when they load a page. Anyone who receives the link can read them, so send it only to the group.

Can the organiser re-draw until the schedule suits them?

Every tournament shows a draw code and the time it was created. The same code with the same list always gives the same rounds, and a new draw gets a new code, so the group can check that the schedule they received is the one being played.
