Skill Level Quiz: Pickleball, Padel and Beach Tennis
Pick your sport and answer ten questions about what you can do reliably, not how good you feel. You get an estimated level band, the three things to work on next and a card to share. It is a self-estimate, not an official rating.

Your estimated level
0 of 10 answered
Answer the ten questions to see your estimate.
What to work on next
You ticked the top statement in every area. A quiz has nothing left to tell you: rated matches will.
How it is worked out: each answer is worth 0 to 3 points, the band is the average rounded to the nearest whole number, and the list above is your three lowest areas.
An estimate for fun and for finding fair matches. It is not a DUPR, USA Pickleball, Playtomic, FIP or federation rating.
How the estimate is made
Ten skills, four statements each
Every question is one skill. The four statements go from the first thing a player learns to what a solid club player does. You pick what you do reliably. Each answer is worth 0 to 3 points.
The band
The band is the average of your ten answers, rounded to the nearest whole number: under 0.5 is the first band, under 1.5 the second, under 2.5 the third, the rest the fourth. "What to work on next" lists your three lowest areas with the statement one step above your answer.
Pickleball: USA Pickleball definitions
The statements paraphrase the USA Pickleball Player Skill Level Definitions for 2.5 (beginner), 3.0 (advanced beginner), 3.5 (intermediate) and 4.0 (advanced intermediate). The fourth band reads "4.0 or above" because the higher levels are told apart by results in rated play.
Padel and beach tennis: informal bands
We found no single public, official self-rating scale for either sport. Clubs, booking apps and federations each use their own levels or categories. The four bands here are plain descriptions, labelled informal.
What it is not
It is not a rating. Ratings come from match results or from an assessment by a rating body. Use the quiz to find a fair match and to choose what to practise.

We read the copy archived on July 12, 2025, because the USA Pickleball site refused our request that day. Both links point to the same file.

- Pick your sport: pickleball, padel or beach tennis.

Examples
A pickleball player around 3.5
She controls most forehands, gets to the kitchen line and holds medium dink rallies, but still avoids her backhand, has no reliable third shot drop and gives away points on unforced errors. Her answers add up to 16 points out of 30, an average of 1.6: the 3.5 band, with backhand, third shot, and rules and stacking to work on.
A padel player who just started
He keeps a slow rally going and his serve goes in, but he hits before the glass and rarely lobs. The answers average 0.7: the second informal band, with the back glass, volleys and the lob as next steps.
Questions
Is this an official rating?
No. It is a self-estimate. It is not a DUPR, USA Pickleball, Playtomic, FIP or federation rating, and it cannot be used to enter a tournament category.
How do I know my pickleball skill level?
Compare what you do reliably with the USA Pickleball skill level definitions, which is what this quiz does for 2.5 to 4.0. For a rating that others accept, play rated matches or tournaments.
How is my padel level estimated?
From ten skills such as rallying, the back glass, the lob, the bandeja and how you move with your partner. The result is one of four informal bands, because padel has no single public self-rating scale.
Why does the pickleball result stop at 4.0 or above?
Above 4.0 the definitions describe consistency and decisions under pressure, which only show in competitive play. A questionnaire would be guessing.
What if I am between two answers?
Pick the lower one. The question is what you do in most matches, not what you can do on a good day. An honest lower answer gives you better matches.
Are my answers stored?
No. They stay in the page while it is open. Nothing is saved, sent or placed in the address, and the card image is created on your device.
