Questions

What is CPM?

CPM means cost per mille, the cost of 1,000 ad impressions. It is how most display, video and social ads are priced or compared when the goal is to be seen.

How do you calculate CPM?

CPM = ad spend ÷ impressions × 1,000. To plan, turn it around: budget = CPM × impressions ÷ 1,000, and impressions = budget ÷ CPM × 1,000.

What is the difference between CPM and CPC?

CPM prices views (1,000 impressions); CPC prices clicks. With the CTR you can move between them: CPC = CPM ÷ (CTR × 10) when CTR is in percent.

Why do CPMs vary so much?

Platform, country, audience, ad format, season and competition for the same people all move the price. Compare CPMs from similar campaigns rather than a general average.

Is a lower CPM always better?

No. Cheap impressions that nobody clicks or buys from cost more per result. Look at CPC, CPA or ROAS next to the CPM before deciding.
