Examples
Campaign CPC
US$ 300 spent for 1,200 clicks is a CPC of US$ 0.25.
CPC from CPM and CTR
50,000 impressions at a CPM of US$ 8 cost US$ 400. With a CTR of 1.6% they bring 800 clicks, so the CPC is US$ 0.50.
Clicks from a budget
A budget of US$ 450 at a CPC of US$ 0.75 buys 600 clicks.
From CPC to CPA
US$ 600 for 1,500 clicks is a CPC of US$ 0.40. If 30 of those clicks convert (2%), each conversion costs US$ 20.
Questions
What is CPC?
CPC means cost per click: the average amount an advertiser pays each time someone clicks the ad. Search, social and display campaigns can all be bought or measured this way.
How do you calculate CPC?
CPC = ad spend ÷ clicks. To plan, turn it around: clicks = budget ÷ CPC, and budget = CPC × clicks.
How do you get the CPC from the CPM and the CTR?
CPC = CPM ÷ (CTR × 10), with the CTR in percent. A higher CTR spreads the same cost over more clicks, which is why a better ad lowers the CPC without changing the CPM.
What is the difference between average CPC and maximum CPC?
Maximum CPC is a bid: the most you accept to pay for a click in an auction. Average CPC is what the clicks actually cost, spend divided by clicks. This calculator works with the average.
What is a good CPC?
There is no single good number: keyword, country, audience, placement and season all change it. Compare the CPC with your own past campaigns for the same goal, then look one step further: CPC ÷ conversion rate (as a decimal) is the cost per conversion, and that is the number your margin has to pay for.
Why is my CPC different from one report to another?
Platforms count clicks in different ways, for example every click on the ad or only the clicks on the link. Check that both reports use the same kind of click before you compare their CPCs.
