Chess: play a bot or a friend

vs bot A full game of chess in the browser, with no account and no download. Play a bot at Easy, Medium or Hard, or pass the device to a friend. Free, no download, no sign-up.

How to play

  1. Open Options to pick Vs Bot (Easy, Medium or Hard) or Vs Friend. You play White against the bot.
  2. Drag a piece or tap it: dots show its legal moves, rings show captures.
  3. Castling, en passant and promotion are supported. Pick the new piece when a pawn reaches the last rank.
  4. Stuck? Hint shows a good move and Undo takes your last move back. Wins earn points by level.

Questions

How strong is the bot?

Easy makes casual mistakes, Medium looks two moves ahead and Hard searches deeper with captures, which is a good test for club players.

Can two people play?

Yes. Vs Friend is local: both players take turns on the same phone or computer.

Are all chess rules included?

Yes: check, checkmate, stalemate, castling, en passant, promotion, the 50-move rule, threefold repetition and insufficient material.
