How to use it

  1. Enter the revenue the campaign brought in and what you spent on the ads.
  2. Read the ROAS: revenue divided by ad spend, shown as a multiple (4× means 4 back for every 1 spent).
  3. Check "Revenue after ad spend" and "ROI on ad spend" below it. Product and delivery costs are not included.
  4. Add clicks or conversions with "Add more numbers" to see CPC, CPA and conversion rate, then copy a summary or a link.

Examples

  • ROAS of 4×

    US$ 4,000 in revenue from US$ 1,000 in ads is a ROAS of 4×, or 400%.

  • Below 1×

US$ 800 in revenue from US$ 1,000 in ads is a ROAS of 0.8×: the ads cost more than the revenue they brought.

  • With conversions

    US$ 1,000 in ads, 50 sales and US$ 3,000 in revenue: ROAS 3× and a CPA of US$ 20 per sale.

Questions

What is ROAS?

ROAS means return on ad spend: the revenue a campaign generated for each unit of money spent on its ads. A ROAS of 3× means 3 in revenue for every 1 spent.

How do you calculate ROAS?

ROAS = revenue from the ads ÷ ad spend. As a percentage, multiply by 100: 3× is 300%.

What is the difference between ROAS and ROI?

ROAS looks at revenue. ROI looks at profit: (revenue minus costs) ÷ costs. Here, "ROI on ad spend" only subtracts the ad spend, so add product, delivery and other costs yourself for the real profit.

What is a break-even ROAS?

The ROAS at which the ads pay for themselves after the cost of what you sold: 1 ÷ gross margin. With a 40% margin, break-even is 1 ÷ 0.40 = 2.5×. Below that, each sale from the ads loses money.

What is a good ROAS?

It depends on your margin, so there is no universal number. A ROAS above your break-even ROAS makes money on each sale; a business with thin margins needs a much higher ROAS than one with wide margins.
