King of the Court organizer for doubles

Type the players and the number of courts. After each round, enter the scores and the tool moves everyone: winners go up a court, losers go down, and partners split so nobody keeps the same teammate. The ranking counts every win, and wins on the higher courts count more.

Cameras on the court, clips for the players: See VISU Replay

How the courts move

  1. Round 1 is a draw: four players per court, and the others wait in line.
  2. After each round the winners move up one court and the losers move down one. Court 1 is the top: its winners stay there. The losers of the last court stay, or go to the back of the line when players are waiting.
  3. Partners split: two players who just played together go to opposite sides, each with one of the two players coming from the other court.
  4. A win is worth the court it was won on. With 3 courts: 3 points on court 1, 2 on court 2 and 1 on court 3. Wins and point difference break ties.

VISU Replay puts cameras on the court, and the players get the clips of their game to share. Show it to the club where your group plays.

How to use it

  1. Type or paste the players, one per line. Four per court is ideal; extra players wait in line and come in on the last court.
  2. Set the number of courts and how many rounds you want to play, then press "Start round 1". The first round is a draw.
  3. When the matches end, type the scores and press "Move players and draw the next round". Winners go up, losers go down and partners split.
  4. Send each round to the group, and at the end download the ranking image or copy the link with the whole session.

Examples

  • 8 players, 2 courts

Court 1 is the top court. Its winners stay and split, joined by the winners coming up from court 2. A win on court 1 is worth 2 points, a win on court 2 is worth 1.

  • 12 players, 3 courts, 6 rounds

Everyone plays every round. A player who starts on court 3 and keeps winning is on court 1 in round 3, and has to defend it with a new partner each time.

  • 10 players, 2 courts

Two wait each round. They come in on court 2, and the pair that lost there goes to the back of the line.

Questions

What is King of the Court?

A doubles format played on several courts ranked from top to bottom. After every round the winners move up a court and the losers move down, so after a few rounds players of a similar level meet. In this individual version the partners split after every round.

How are partners chosen for the next round?

Two players who just played together go to opposite sides of the net. Each one gets a partner from the two players arriving from the other court, and the tool picks the combination that has played together the least. When both options are equal, the draw code decides.

What if a match ends in a tie?

Somebody has to move up, so the next round stays locked while a court is tied. Play one more point and correct the score.

How does the ranking work?

Every win adds the value of its court: the top court is worth as many points as there are courts and the last court is worth 1. Ties are broken by number of wins, then by point difference, then by points scored.

What happens with 9, 10 or 11 players on 2 courts?

The extra players wait in a line. After each round up to two of them come in on the last court and the players who lost there go to the back of the line. With one player waiting, the loser who has waited less gives up the place.

Can I fix a score after the next round was drawn?

Rounds already played are locked, because the next round was built from them. Delete the last round, correct the score and draw it again: the same scores always give the same round.

What is in the link?

The names, the settings, the draw code and the scores, in the part of the address after the # sign, which browsers do not send to the server when they load a page. Anyone who receives the link can read them, so send it only to the group.
