Location QR Code Generator

Paste the link of your place, its coordinates or its address. The tool finds the coordinates inside the link, lets you choose which map app the code opens, and makes the QR code and a "Find us" card to print.

  • Free
  • No sign-up
  • Runs in your browser

Paste a Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze link, type coordinates, or type an address.

Open in

Documented by Google as one link for every platform: it opens the Google Maps app on Android and iPhone when installed, otherwise the browser.

Nothing is looked up. The link, the coordinates and the address stay in this browser.

Your map link

Paste a map link, coordinates or an address to see your QR code.
Test link

Paste a map link, coordinates or an address to see your QR code.

This QR code is static: the place is written into it. If you move, the printed code keeps pointing to the old address.

Moving, or printing a lot? Make it dynamic

A dynamic VISU QR points to a short visu.to link. If you move, open a second address or want the code to open another map app, you edit the destination in your account and every printed code keeps working. VISU shows how many times it was scanned.

Print card

A "Find us" card for a flyer, an invitation, a business card insert or the shop window.

The card appears when your map link is ready.

In the print window choose scale 100% (not "fit to page") and margins "none", so every size comes out exact.

Which phones open what

The same place can be written in four ways. What is documented comes from the page of each service; what is only known from use is marked as observed. The examples are the links this tool writes for the sample place.

  • Google Maps

    https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=40.689249%2C-74.0445

Documented: Google Maps URLs: one link for every platform. On Android and iPhone it opens the Google Maps app when installed, otherwise Google Maps in the browser.

Observed: Nothing beyond the documentation. It is the safe default when you do not know which phone your visitors carry.

  • Apple Maps

    https://maps.apple.com/?ll=40.689249,-74.0445&q=Statue%20of%20Liberty

Documented: Apple Map Links: ll is the point, q is the label of the pin. The link opens the Maps app on iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Observed: On Android and Windows it opens Apple Maps in the browser or another map site, depending on the browser. Test it if part of your public uses Android.

  • Waze

    https://waze.com/ul?ll=40.689249%2C-74.0445&navigate=yes

Documented: Waze Deep Links: opens the Waze app when installed and starts navigation to the point. Without the app, it opens the Waze web page.

Observed: Good where people drive to you. People who do not use Waze land on a web map, not on their own map app.

  • geo: (plain)

    geo:40.689249,-74.0445

Documented: RFC 5870 defines geo: with latitude and longitude. Android documents it and lets the person pick among the map apps installed.

Observed: Apple does not list geo: among its link schemes, so what an iPhone does with it is not documented. Scan the code with an iPhone before you print, or choose a maps link.

How to use it

  1. Open your place in Google Maps, tap Share and copy the link. Or copy its coordinates, or just have the address at hand.
  2. Paste it here. The line under the box shows the coordinates the tool found, or the text the map app will search for.
  3. Choose where the code opens: Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze or a plain geo: URI.
  4. Tap "Test link" and check that the pin is on your door.
  5. Download the QR code as PNG or SVG, or print the "Find us" card.

Examples

  • Wedding or party invitation

A code on the invitation that opens the venue in the map app, so nobody types an address in the car.

  • Shop window and flyers

A "Find us" card with the code and the address line, for flyers, bags and partner counters.

  • Deliveries and service calls

A code on the gate sign of a farm, a warehouse or a construction site, pointing at the exact entrance by coordinates.

  • Event with parking

One code for the entrance and another for the car park, each with its own coordinates.

Questions

How do I make a QR code for a location?

Paste the link of the place from your map app, its coordinates or its address, choose which map app the code should open, and download the code. Scanning it opens the map on that place.

Coordinates or address: which is better?

Coordinates put the pin on an exact point, and every map app reads them the same way. An address is searched by the map app at the moment of the scan, so the result depends on that app and can land on the wrong number or the wrong town. For a door that people must find, use coordinates.

Why does my short link (maps.app.goo.gl) show no coordinates?

A short link is only a pointer that Google resolves on its servers. This tool does not open links or ask any server, so it keeps the short link as it is in the code. To choose another map app, open the short link in a browser, copy the full link from the address bar and paste it here.

Which destination should I choose?

Google Maps is the safe default: Google documents its link as working on Android, iPhone and the web. Choose Apple Maps for an iPhone public, Waze where people drive to you, and geo: only after you have tested it on the phones your public uses.

Is my address sent to a server?

No. There is no geocoding here: the tool only reads the text you paste and writes a link in your browser. An address stays as text inside a search link.

Can I change the place after printing?

Not on a static code: the place is written into it. If you may move, or want to change the map app later, make the code a dynamic VISU QR and edit its destination in your account.

How big should I print it?

A map link makes a medium density code. On a card or flyer read at arm's length, 3 cm (1.2 in) is comfortable. For a sign read from farther away, use the QR code size calculator to get the size for your distance.
