Instagram Line Break Generator and Caption Formatter
Paste your caption, keep the empty lines between paragraphs when you post it on Instagram and other networks, and see the character, hashtag and emoji counts the way each network counts them.
- Free
- No sign-up
- Runs in your browser
Each empty line gets one invisible character (U+2800, the blank braille pattern), so the app does not see the line as empty and keeps it.
Only lines made of hashtags move, and repeated hashtags are dropped. A hashtag inside a sentence stays where it is.
Your text stays in this browser. Nothing is sent or saved.

First line preview
Type or paste a caption to see it formatted and counted.
No network publishes where the feed cuts a caption. 125 is what people see on Instagram today, so change the number to test another one. A line break also ends the preview.

What the tool changes in your text
- It removes the spaces left at the end of each line. A space before a line break is the most common reason a break disappears after pasting.
- It fills each empty line with one character, so the app does not treat the line as empty: an invisible one (U+2800, the blank braille pattern, which is not white space and so is not trimmed) or a visible dot. You can also leave empty lines empty.
- It removes empty lines at the very start and the very end, and it moves the hashtag block only if you ask.
- Nothing else is touched: no word, emoji, mention or link changes. When and why an app drops a line is not documented by the networks, it is observed behaviour that has changed over the years. That is why you choose, and why you should check the post after publishing.

Instagram hashtags: the Help Center says "up to 5 tags on a post", while the API reference lists 30 hashtags and 20 mentions per caption. The tool shows a note above 5 and above 30. Help Center · API reference
Left out because no official page gives a number: Facebook posts, TikTok bio, WhatsApp status.
Instagram, TikTok, X, Threads, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest and Bluesky are trademarks of their owners. VISU is not affiliated with them.
The caption sends people to your bio link
A caption is not where people tap links, and a profile shows one link up front. A VISU Link puts your links, offers and contact on one page, so "link in bio" always leads to the right place.
Create a free VISU LinkHow to use it
- Paste or write your caption with the paragraphs and empty lines the way you want them to appear.
- Choose what fills the empty lines: an invisible character, a visible dot, or nothing.
- Decide where the hashtag block goes: where it is, at the end, or out of the caption as a first comment.
- Check the counters, the limit of each network and the first line preview.
- Copy the caption and paste it in the app. If you chose the first comment, copy it too.
Examples
A menu post with paragraphs
Three short paragraphs, one empty line between them, the order line at the end and the hashtags moved to the first comment so the caption stays clean.
One text, several networks
A 400 character caption fits Instagram and Threads but is over on X. The limit list shows by how much before you paste.
Checking the hook
The first line preview shows which words appear before "more", so the offer or the question is not cut in half.
Questions
Why does Instagram remove my line breaks?
Instagram does not document it. What people observe: a space left at the end of a line can make the break after it disappear, and empty lines between paragraphs are sometimes collapsed, depending on the app version and on where you type (caption, bio or comment). This tool removes those end spaces and lets you fill the empty lines.
What exactly does the tool insert?
One character on each empty line, and nothing else. By default it is U+2800, the blank braille pattern: it looks empty but is not a space, so the line is not treated as empty. You can switch to a visible dot, or insert nothing and only clean the line ends.
How are the characters counted?
Each network counts differently. X uses weights (an emoji is 2, a link is always 23). TikTok counts UTF-16 units. Threads counts an emoji as its UTF-8 bytes. Bluesky counts characters as you see them. Instagram, LinkedIn and Pinterest do not say how they count, so for them the tool uses the strictest count: if it fits here, it fits there.
How many hashtags can I use on Instagram?
Instagram gives two numbers. Its Help Center says you can use up to 5 tags on a post. Its API reference lists a maximum of 30 hashtags and 20 mentions in a caption. Both pages were read on October 11, 2026, and the tool shows a note when you pass either number.
Should hashtags go in the caption or in the first comment?
Instagram says hashtags can be added in the caption or in the comments of a post. It does not publish that one place works better than the other. The tool only moves the block, so the choice is about how you want the caption to look.
Where is my caption cut in the feed?
No network publishes the number. On Instagram people see about 125 characters before "more" today, and a line break also ends the visible part. The preview uses a number you can change, so treat it as an estimate.
Is the invisible character a problem for screen readers?
It can be. Some screen readers skip it and others announce it. If accessibility matters for your audience, use the visible dot or leave the empty lines empty and test the post.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. The formatting and the counting run in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to VISU or to any network, and nothing is stored.
