QR Code Scavenger Hunt Generator

Write the clues of your treasure hunt, or start from a ready set for a kids party, the office, a classroom or home. Each card you hide carries a QR code that reveals the next clue, and you print the cards, a start card and an answer sheet in one go.

Everything is made in this browser. Your clues and places are not sent to VISU.

Fills the list with clues for that setting. Every word can be edited.

Your clues

From 3 to 20 steps. Each clue up to 200 characters.

    Order

Moves whole steps (clue and place together), so the chain still works.

    What the QR codes hold

Each code opens this page with the clue written inside the link, after the #. That part of a link never reaches a server, so the clue is not sent to VISU. Players need a connection.

    Preview

Write at least 3 clues to see the cards.

A small line at the foot of each sheet, clear of the codes and the cut marks. Untick to remove it: free, no account.

In the print window choose scale 100% (not "fit to page") and margins "none", so every size comes out exact.

Tips for a hunt that works

    • Read each clue standing at its hiding place: if you would not guess it, a child will not either.
    • Scan one printed card with your own phone before you hide them all.
    • Little kids enjoy 4 to 6 steps close together; older kids and teams like 10 or more.
    • Hide cards where players can reach them, away from stoves, stairs and anything unsafe.
    • Keep the answer sheet in your pocket: it lists every place in order, so you can help a stuck team.

More QR codes for the day

    1. Many codes at once

Need plain codes for a list of links or texts? The bulk QR generator makes them all in one go and prints them on a sheet.

    2. One code with your style

For a single QR code with colors, a logo and a frame, use the QR code generator.

    3. A prize page you can change later

If the last card should open a page (a video, a photo album, a prize voucher), a dynamic VISU QR points to a short VISU link: you choose where it goes after printing, and VISU shows how many times it was scanned.

    How to use it

    1. Pick a ready clue set or write your own: for each step, the clue players read and the place it leads to.
    2. Choose what the codes hold: a link that opens the clue on this page, or the plain text.
    3. Shuffle the order if you like, choose 4 or 6 cards per sheet and check the preview.
    4. Print the cards, the start card and the answer sheet, cut them out and hide each card at the place written on it.

    Examples

    • Birthday party

Six clues around the house from the kids party set, 4 big cards per sheet, and a finish message that sends everyone to the cake.

    • Team building

Ten office clues in plain text mode, so the codes work in a basement meeting room with no signal.

    • Classroom review

Eight stations where each clue is a question about the lesson; the answer tells the group where the next card is.

    Questions

How does a QR code scavenger hunt work?

Players get a start card with the first clue. The clue leads them to a place where you hid a card; scanning its QR code reveals the next clue, and so on, until the card at the last place shows the finish message.

Do players need an app or a connection?

Any phone camera that reads QR codes works. In link mode the code opens this page, so it needs a connection. In plain text mode the clue is inside the code and works offline, but each camera app shows text in its own way.

    Are my clues sent anywhere?

No. The cards are made in your browser. In link mode the clue is written in the part of the link after the #, which browsers never send to a server, so VISU never receives it.

How many clues can a hunt have?

From 3 to 20 steps, each clue up to 200 characters. Longer clues make denser codes: the tool tells you when a code would be too dense to scan at the printed size.

Can I change the order of the clues?

Yes. Shuffle the order moves each clue together with its place, so the chain still works. The answer sheet always follows the order you print.

Can I remove "Made with VISU"?

Yes. Untick "Show Made with VISU" before you print or download. It is free and needs no account.
