Credit Card Fee Calculator
See what lands in your account after the card processing fee, and what to charge so the full amount reaches you. Type the percent and the fixed fee from your own processor statement, for cards taken in person, online or keyed in. No rate is pre-filled: processors change theirs, and yours is the one that counts.

Result
Type the sale amount and at least one rate to see the result.
Rounded to the cent, with the amount to charge rounded up. Your processor may round differently: its statement is the reference.

How the numbers are made
A percent plus a fixed fee
Most processors charge a percent of the sale plus a fixed amount per transaction. Fee = sale × percent + fixed fee. What you receive is the sale minus that fee.
The rate depends on how the card is taken
Processors usually price a card that is tapped, dipped or swiped differently from one paid online or typed in by hand. The calculator keeps the three apart so you can compare them with your own rates.
Receiving the full amount
Adding the fee on top is not enough, because the fee is also charged on what you add. The amount to charge is (sale + fixed fee) ÷ (1 - percent), rounded up to the cent.
Effective rate
The fee divided by the sale. A fixed fee weighs more on small sales: the same fixed amount is a larger share of a small ticket than of a large one.
Before you add a surcharge
Whether a card surcharge is allowed, and how it has to be disclosed, depends on where you sell and on the rules of the card networks and of your processor. The calculator only does the arithmetic: check those rules before you change what you charge.
What this leaves out
Monthly fees, chargebacks, currency conversion, and pricing where every card type has its own cost. For those, use the blended rate from your statement: total fees ÷ total card sales.

- Find your rates on your processor statement or app: a percent and, usually, a fixed fee per transaction.
- Choose how the sale is paid and type the sale amount.
- Type the percent and the fixed fee of that payment type. Fill in the other types to compare them in the table.
- Read what you receive and what to charge to receive the full amount. Download the card, copy the result or print the table.
Examples
A $100 sale paid online
Made-up rates to show the maths, not the rates of any processor: 3% plus $0.30 per sale. Fee = 100 × 0.03 + 0.30 = $3.30, so you receive $96.70. To receive the full $100.00, charge $103.41.
The same sale in person
With a made-up 2.5% plus $0.10, the fee is $2.60 and you receive $97.40. To receive the full $100.00, charge $102.67.
Why small sales cost more
On a $5.00 sale with the same made-up 3% plus $0.30, the fee is $0.45: an effective rate of 9%, three times the percent alone.
Questions
How do I calculate a credit card processing fee?
Multiply the sale by the percent your processor charges and add the fixed fee per transaction. With made-up rates of 3% plus 0.30, a 100.00 sale pays a fee of 3.30 and leaves you 96.70.
How much do I charge to receive the full amount?
Divide the sale plus the fixed fee by 1 minus the percent. Adding the fee on top falls short, because the processor also takes its percent of the extra. With the same made-up rates, receiving 100.00 takes a charge of 103.41, not 103.30.
Where do I find my rates?
On your processor statement, in its app or on the pricing page of your plan. Look for a percent and a fixed amount per transaction, and check whether in-person, online and keyed-in payments are priced differently.
Why are no rates filled in?
Processors change their pricing and merchants are on different plans. A calculator that ships a brand rate is wrong the day that rate changes. Your rate is on your statement, so that is the one to type.
Can I add a surcharge for card payments?
That depends on where you sell and on the rules of the card networks and of your processor, which can limit or forbid surcharges and say how they must be disclosed. This calculator does the arithmetic only.
What is an effective rate?
The total fee divided by the sale amount. With a fixed fee, the effective rate is higher on small sales and gets closer to the percent on large ones.
How do I use the table?
Fill in the rate of each way you take cards. The table shows what each one costs on the same sale and what to charge to receive the full amount, and "Print table" gives you a clean sheet to keep by the register or in the back office.
Are my numbers stored?
No. The maths runs in your browser. Amounts and rates are not uploaded, are not added to the page address and are not saved.
