Spain Net Salary Calculator

In Spain the gross salary loses two things before it reaches the bank: the employee's Social Security contributions (about 6.5%) and the IRPF income tax withholding, a rate that depends on the salary and the family. Type the gross annual salary, the number of payments and your family situation, and see the net pay per month and per year, with the withholding rate calculated the way the Spanish Tax Agency (AEAT) does it in 2026.

How the net salary is calculated

Social Security

The employee pays 4.70% common contingencies, 1.55% unemployment (1.60% on temporary contracts), 0.10% vocational training and 0.15% MEI (Orden PJC/297/2026). The monthly base is the annual gross ÷ 12, extra payments spread, up to 5,101.20 euros. Above that, a small solidarity contribution: 0.19%, 0.21% and 0.24% by bands.

Withholding base

Gross minus contributions minus 2,000 euros of general expenses (4,000 if you moved town for the job), minus the work income reduction of up to 7,302 euros for net income up to 19,747.50, minus 600 with more than two children.

Personal and family allowance

5,550 euros for you (+1,150 from 65, +1,400 more from 75), 2,400, 2,700, 4,000 and 4,500 for the first, second, third and following children, +2,800 for each child under 3. Halved when shared with the other parent.

The rate

The 2026 scale (19% to 47%) is applied to the base and to the allowance; the difference is the annual tax. Divided by the gross salary and cut to two decimals it is the withholding rate. Low salaries pay nothing up to a limit (15,876 euros single without children) and the tax never exceeds 43% of what passes that limit.

The same AEAT method

These steps are the AEAT 2026 algorithm. For the cases this page takes, the rate was checked against the AEAT calculation service, case by case. The withholding does not depend on the region, except in the Basque Country and Navarre, which have their own rules.

What this leaves out

Disability, ascendants, alimony, home loans, irregular income, special regimes and the annual return: the final IRPF of the year comes from the tax return, where regional rates and deductions apply.

Questions

How much is a net salary of 30,000 euros in Spain?

For a single person without children in 2026, about 23,124 euros a year: 1,628.50 in each of 14 payments plus the difference in the two extra ones (1,791.00), or 1,927.00 a month in 12 payments. The IRPF rate is 16.42%.

Why is my rate different from my colleague's?

The rate depends on the gross salary, the children, the age, the family situation and the contract. Two people with the same salary can have different rates, and the employer recalculates it when something changes.

12 or 14 payments: do I earn more with one of them?

No. The year is the same: in 12 payments the extra ones are spread over the months. Only the amount of each payment changes.

Does the region change the withholding?

No, the AEAT withholding uses the same scale everywhere except the Basque Country and Navarre. Regional rates show up in the annual tax return.

What is the MEI on my payslip?

The Intergenerational Equity Mechanism, a Social Security contribution for pensions: 0.90% in 2026, of which the employee pays 0.15%.

Is this the exact net I will get?

It is an estimate with the 2026 rules. Bonuses, overtime, benefits in kind or a different rate asked on form 145 change it. Your numbers stay in your browser: nothing is uploaded or saved.
