QR code Instagram story and post template
A link in a reposted story, on a TV at an event or in a post caption cannot be tapped. Type your link, a headline and a call to action and get a vertical image with a large QR code that people scan from another screen. It works on any network that takes a vertical image, and everything stays in your browser.
- Free
- No sign-up
- Runs in your browser
The QR code opens exactly this link. It stays in this page.
The text colour is picked for you, so it always reads on the colour you choose.
Add a photo to fill the background. Until then the image uses a dark colour.
Your link, texts and photo stay on this device. The image is made in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

Type your link to add the QR code.
We leave space at the top and bottom of the image, where apps usually put their own buttons and captions.
This QR code is static: it holds your link directly, works forever and cannot be edited later.
With a dynamic VISU QR, the code in your image opens whatever link you set later, and you see how many times it was scanned.
Create a dynamic QR free on VISUType your link first, then create its dynamic QR.
Post the image once, point the code somewhere new later
The image this page makes carries a static QR code: your link is written into the code itself. That is all you need when the link never changes. When it might (a new menu, the next event, another product), put a dynamic VISU QR in the image instead.
- Create the dynamic QR on VISU. The link you typed goes along.
- Copy the short link VISU gives you (visu.to/q/...) and type it here in place of the other one.
- Download the image and post it. Change the destination on VISU whenever you need, and see the scan count there.

Independent tool. Instagram is a trademark of its owner and is not affiliated with VISU. The images work on any network that accepts a vertical picture.
How to use it
- Type the link the QR code should open, then a headline and a short call to action.
- Choose the format: 9:16 for stories, 4:5 for feed posts. Pick a template and a colour, or add your own photo.
- Decide whether the link is printed under the code and whether an arrow or a "scan me" label points at it.
- Download the PNG and scan it with your phone camera to test it. Then post it.
Examples
Café with a new menu
Headline "New autumn menu", call to action "Scan to see it" and the link to the menu page. Customers repost the story and the café shows it on the TV behind the counter, where nobody can tap a link.
Creator with a booking page
A 4:5 post that says "November dates are open" with the QR code to the booking page. Someone who sees the post on a laptop scans it with a phone instead of hunting for the link.
Screen at an event
A 9:16 image shown between talks: "Slides and contacts", a large code and the short link printed under it for anyone who prefers to type.
Questions
Is my link or my photo uploaded?
No. The page loads once and then your browser draws the image on your device. The link, the texts and the photo are not sent to a server, there is no account, and the image carries no VISU logo.
Why put a QR code in a story or a post?
A link inside an image cannot be tapped, and a story that is reposted, shown on another screen or printed loses any link it had. A QR code works from a second screen: a phone pointed at a laptop, a TV, a projector or a poster.
Can people scan it on the phone they are holding?
Not with the camera of that same phone. They can take a screenshot and open it in an app that reads QR codes from pictures, which many phones can do from the gallery. That is why the image can also print the link as text.
What sizes do I get?
9:16 is 1080 × 1920 px, the full vertical screen used by stories and vertical video covers. 4:5 is 1080 × 1350 px, a tall feed post. Both are PNG files, 1080 px wide.
Why is there empty space at the top and bottom?
Apps that show vertical images place their own things over them: a profile name and buttons at the top, a reply field or a caption at the bottom. In the 9:16 format we keep the headline, the code and the call to action out of the top 14% and the bottom 20% of the image. This is the space we leave by our own choice, not a number published by any network.
Will the code scan?
The code takes about half of the image width or more, in near black on a white plate with a margin of 4 modules, whatever colour you choose for the background. A short link makes bigger squares and scans from farther away. A link that would need squares too small to read is refused. Always test with your phone before you post.
Can I change the link after posting?
Not with the code this page makes: it is static, so the link is written into it. If the image carries a dynamic VISU QR instead, you change the destination on VISU and the same image keeps working. VISU also counts the scans.
Does it work on other networks?
Yes. The file is a normal PNG in 9:16 or 4:5, so it can be used anywhere a vertical image is accepted: stories, status updates, vertical video covers, feed posts, a TV or a printed flyer.
