Color palette from image

Drop a photo, a logo or a screenshot and get its 5 to 8 main colors with HEX and RGB codes ready to copy. Check the contrast between any two of them before using them for text, and download a palette card with your picture and the swatches. The picture never leaves your browser.

A palette makes your profile look like a brand. The link in your bio finishes the job.

VISU Link is a free page at visu.to/yourname for your shop, booking, menu, contacts and social profiles. One address for your bio, your posts and your QR code, and you change what is behind it whenever you want.

How to use it

  1. Drop a picture, choose it from your device or paste it. Photos, logos, product shots and screenshots all work.
  2. Pick how many colors you want, from 5 to 8. The palette is ordered by how much of the picture each color covers.
  3. Copy one code, the whole list or the CSS variables. Then choose a text color and a background color to see the contrast ratio and the AA and AAA marks.
  4. Download the palette card as a PNG to keep with your brand files or to send to whoever designs with you.

Examples

  • Brand colors from a logo

Drop the PNG of your logo and copy its colors as HEX codes. A flat area keeps its real color, so the code you get is the one the designer used, and the transparent background is ignored.

  • A feed that matches the product photo

Take your best product photo, extract 6 colors and use them for the backgrounds and the text of your next posts and stories.

  • Readable text over a color

Choose the dark blue of the palette as background and the cream as text. If the ratio is 4.5:1 or more, the pair passes AA for normal text.

Questions

Is my picture uploaded?

No. The page loads once and then your browser reads the pixels on your device. The picture is not sent to a server, there is no account, and the palette card is drawn on your device too. You can check it: open the network tab of your browser tools and drop a picture. No request goes out.

How are the colors chosen?

The tool reads a small copy of the picture and groups its pixels by color, a method known as median cut. Groups that are almost the same become one, and the result is ordered by how much of the picture each color covers. The same picture always gives the same palette.

Why did I get fewer colors than I asked for?

Because the picture does not have that many clearly different colors. A logo with two colors gives two colors. The tool never invents shades to reach the number.

What does the contrast ratio mean?

It is the WCAG measure of how far apart two colors are in brightness, from 1:1 (the same color) to 21:1 (black on white). Normal text needs 4.5:1 for level AA and 7:1 for AAA. Large text, from 24 px or 18.66 px in bold, needs 3:1 for AA and 4.5:1 for AAA.

Which image formats work?

JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and AVIF, up to 40 MB. The transparent parts of a PNG are ignored, so a logo on a transparent background gives only the colors of the logo. An iPhone HEIC photo has to be exported as JPG first.

Can I use these colors on a QR code?

Yes. Open our QR code generator and type the HEX codes in the style options: the darker color for the code and the lighter one for the background, so cameras can read it. For a printed code, a dynamic VISU QR lets you edit the destination later and shows the scan count.

What is on the palette card?

A PNG 1080 px wide with your whole picture on top and one swatch per color below, each with its HEX and RGB codes. No logo and no watermark are added: the picture is yours.
