Brazil FGTS Calculator
In Brazil the employer deposits 8% of a CLT employee's pay every month into an FGTS account in the worker's name. Type the monthly salary and how many months to project, and see the deposits, the balance with the legal interest (3% a year plus TR), the 40% fine on a dismissal without cause and the amount of the anniversary withdrawal. The rules are Brazilian law, explained in English.

Anniversary withdrawal table (saque-aniversário)
Who opts in can withdraw part of the balance every year in the birthday month: the balance × the rate of its band + the extra amount.

Lei 8.036/1990 art. 20-D. Who opts in and is dismissed gets the 40% fine but not the balance, which stays locked while the option lasts.
How the FGTS is calculated
8% every month
The employer deposits 8% of the gross pay in the worker's FGTS account by the 20th of the next month (Lei 8.036/1990 art. 15). Nothing is taken from the salary. Apprentices: 2%.
13th and vacation
The 8% also falls on the 13th salary and on the 1/3 vacation bonus. The calculator adds both once every 12 months; turn it off to see only the monthly deposits.
Interest: 3% a year + TR
Balances earn 3% a year, credited monthly (0.2466% a month), plus the TR (art. 13). The future TR is unknown, so you choose it; zero is the cautious default. The yearly profit share and the IPCA floor set by the Supreme Court (ADI 5090) are not included.
The 40% fine
On a dismissal without just cause the employer pays 40% of everything deposited during the job, with interest (art. 18). Withdrawals do not lower that base. By agreement (CLT art. 484-A) the fine is 20%.
Anniversary withdrawal
An optional yearly withdrawal by band (table above). The band applies to the sum of all your FGTS accounts (art. 20-D), so the result here, on this account only, changes if you have others. It locks the balance on dismissal: you keep the fine, not the balance, until you leave the option, which takes 25 months.
What this leaves out
Salary raises, unpaid months, other FGTS accounts of earlier jobs, the profit share and the real TR. Brazilian law, explained in English: check the official statement before any decision.

Questions
How much FGTS is deposited each month?
8% of the gross pay, paid by the employer on top of the salary. On R$3,000 that is R$240 a month. For apprentices it is 2%.
Is the FGTS taken from my salary?
No. It is an employer cost; it does not appear as a deduction on the payslip.
How much interest does the FGTS pay?
3% a year plus the TR, credited monthly. In some years a share of the fund's profit is added, and since the Supreme Court decision ADI 5090 (2024) the total must not lose to inflation (IPCA). This calculator includes only the 3% and the TR you type.
How is the 40% fine calculated?
On everything deposited during the job, with interest, even if you withdrew part of it. With a balance of 3,239.39 the fine is 1,295.76. It is paid on a dismissal without just cause; by agreement it is 20%.
How much is the anniversary withdrawal?
The balance times the rate of its band plus an extra amount (table above). With 3,239.39 the band is 30% + R$150, so 1,121.82.
Can I take the whole balance if I am dismissed?
Yes, unless you opted for the anniversary withdrawal: then you get the 40% fine but the balance stays locked until you leave the option.
Does it apply to people outside Brazil?
No. FGTS is a Brazilian right of employees under a CLT contract in Brazil. This page explains it in English for expats and companies hiring in Brazil.
Is this the exact amount I will get?
It is an estimate. The official balance is on the FGTS app. Your numbers stay in your browser: nothing is uploaded or saved.
